  Stayed one night before flight home. Given a free upgrade to fit an extra bed for 3 persons which is a nice touch. Walking distance to restaurants and eating places. There is a market selling vegetables and live seafood; fruit stalls and stalls selling steamed buns and local cakes. Overall a pleasant stay. Recommended.

• OK for a while. Not persuaded me to stay longer.

  I stayed here for two nights, at the start of 1 week Hainan stay.
  The idea was to stay in Haikou for 3 or 4 nights en then move to Sanya. But the hotel ambiance did not persuade me to stay longer then 2 nights.
  The hotel actually was hard to recognize from the street, since there was no exterior sign of “Meritus Mandarin”; the hotel chain changed owner, and the renovation to changing to other “china-brand” was in full process. The main lobby entrance was moved to the right.
  Room (1520) was average space, lots of white wood decoration furniture and interior; Toilet room wit.h separate shower-cabin and bathtub; all toilet amenities available. The bed was not as soft as I like it to be. Sleeping quality was OK. The TV was widescreen LCD with a lot of Chinese channels… only one film net channel available; The internet was WLAN and LAN on the room; but I was not able to connect; not with smart-phone and not with laptop. Breakfast was OK: enough choice for Asian and Western taste; this was one of reasons I decided to move on after 2 nights.
  All in all the stay was average; next time in Haikou, I will try another hotel.

  Good location near the city center where u can get almost everything within walking distance. Looks and feel a little old but the great service attitude of the staff makes the stay worth it. Excellent chicken rice at the café and good ambience at the lobby bar. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Haikou as the service is 5 star, the location is ideal and it's quite worth your buck.

  The oldest international hotel in the city - and it looks like it. In need of a renovation but overall stay experience was good.
  Location is excellent as there are many food choices nearby. Easy access to many attractions too. I stayed here and enjoyed the genuine services rendered by the staff here.
  Chicken rice is one of the must try in the restaurant

• Old tired Chinese hotel

  The first thing that hit me when I got to the room was the strong mold smell this is common in hotels in the hot tropical areas like Haikou and guangzhou but when I saw the bathroom and shower with the big mold stains I understood this was a different story completely.
  At check it they tried to charge me more for the room but after I showed them the agent website with the price they reduced it.
  The room was old tired and worn out the carpet filthy the bathroom and shower moldy and smelly. and this hotel is way overpriced they charge like the shangri la but are not more then a three star hotel. You can get a four star hotel for half the price.
