Exceptionally nice hotel but be aware internet may not work!
Ann C
Apr 7, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesI recently was in Guiyang with my husband and stayed at the Renaissance. The hotel is located about 20 minutes outside of the city.
PROS:
-The rooms and beds are extremely comfortable. Showers are great. Breakfast was also phenomenal if you are willing to pay for it or if you have Marriott club status.
-The staff is very friendly and (mostly) helpful, although their English is somewhat limited.
-Close proximity to a beautiful park for walking/running.
CONS:
-My main gripe was that the internet server in the hotel did not allow me to connect. The manager and IT support were unable to fix the problem after hours of trying to help. My husband's computer also experienced the same problem and it was extremely frustrating. (this had nothing to do with China's "great firewall", as I did not experience the same issue at other hotels). I'm unsure as to whether or not this just had to do with the fact that we were using American computers.
-Air con was not working properly during our stay, so the room was quite warm/hot at times.
-The staff's English is somewhat limited. Not a huge problem, but a slight obstacle at times.
My review should probably be a little less than "very good", but the beds really put it slightly above average, so didn't want to select 3 stars either. -
Top notch hotel - only suitable for those with a car
Guiyang26
Guiyang, China | Feb 17, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWe have been staying here for the past 3 years.
Really well maintained hotel, with good service, but not in the most convenient location. If you need to be downtown, it will take 30+ mins. Not easy to get a taxi around this area, but if you are able to book it will cost you 40-50 RMB to get to city center. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who will not have a car. Unless your activities will be in or near the hotel, you will basically be stranded.
Despite the distance, we like to stay here because we always have a car. It's a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere, with a large park right next door for evening or morning walks. You will not get the same value for money in city center, it will cost 1.5-2x more. We had previously stayed at the Sheraton, but didn't enjoy it because it smelt like smoke everywhere and everything felt worn down.
Breakfast buffet is reasonably good. Not the same quality you'd get in resort locations, but good considering it's Guiyang. Good selection of both Chinese and Western dishes. Some fresh squeezed juices and nice coffees also.
During our most recent stay, the hotel even gave me a free cake and left it in our room on my birthday! Nice personal touch! -
Not bad

Nov 19, 2025Nice hotel, good service, but personal don't speak English at all!
General manager must do something with this!
I understand, that in China english language not very important, but if you work in hospitality, at lest your English must in at intermediate level. -
Good location for the trade show área

Guadalajara, Mexico | Oct 17, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessVery friendly staff. Very nice accommodations, excellent food. However I suffered because of two tiny details:
Most of the staff speaks little or no english, son any request, from a non allergic pillow, to a glass of red wine, becomes difficult and time consuming.
Housekeeping is not very through, yes they come and do the bed, but the room had that feeling of not being vacuumed or dusted, not terrible, but not good either. -
An excellent hotel spoilt by small details
Robert D
Shanghai, China | Oct 6, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesBeautifully designed hotel with spacious well fitted comfortable bedrooms and bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff. Location can be a problem when returning from the old town, as taxis are selective, requiring your destination before accepting or declining the fare. The gym and pool are first class.
Buffet breakfast and dinner is good. No orange juice for breakfast is bad stock control. Fabric napkins are NOT offered at mealtimes (even the Novotel in Guiyang provide them).
Buffet restaurant and lobby area by lifts have two "western" music stations playing at the same time. The cacophony is unnoticed by local staff and despite being advised managers did not fix the problem - bar switching off all background music temporarily.
All said it is good value for money, even if not up to the same standards normally experienced in Marriott brand hotels.
