  The positives:
  -Good location. Excellent location in the heart of the city, minutes from the beautiful tea-house on the river.
  -Friendly staff. The staff was professional and friendly. Yusi in the Executive lounge was an absolute delight. She provided attentive service and it was very nice to chat with her. She certainly made our experience at the lounge so much better. And her English was absolutely superb.
  -Strong air-con in room. The air conditioner in our room was very good and you can adjust the room setting to be either freezing cold or as hot as you liked. I point this out since in some top Guiyang hotels you can’t actually control the temperature of your room and if it is hot outside the rooms can be like an oven (for example Hyatt Regency Guiyang). But at the Kempinski you have full control of your room temperature which was great since it was very hot outside during our stay and it was nice to come back to an ice-cold room after a day out and about.
  -Views. Amazing views of this beautiful city from most rooms and especially from the executive lounge on the 53rd floor.
  -Homemade beer. A nice microbrewery on-site at Pauliner. It is a nice touch to have this brewery and it certainly adds to the experience.
  What can be improved:
  -Swimming pool. If more than two people are staying in each room you will need to pay around US$25 for access + buy swimming cap for another US$12,5. Going swimming will cost you US$37.5 per person if more than 2 people are staying in the room. Even if you are already paying for an extra person staying in the room and paying for the extra bed, you still have to fork up more to get access to the pool. This is apparently due to the hotel not managing and running the pool. As a result you are subject to the whims of the pool management.
  -Cigarette Smoke Everywhere. Smoke is almost everywhere and even trickled a little bit into our room at times. Seemed impossible to get away from the smoke whilst in the hotel. The hotel even have ashtrays just outside the buffet restaurant and of course the smoke goes into the restaurant. And in certain locations where there are non-smoking signs those signs do not seem to be enforced by the hotel management since people were smoking apparently where ever they pleased.
  In the executive lounge they have a non-smoking section and a smoking section which is not separated by any partition at all. The smoking and non-smoking areas are only few yards from each other, so this is basically meaningless.
  - Beds were a bit too firm, but this is quite subjective as preferences of can vary significantly between people.

  I've stayed in the Kempinski several times in my trips to Guizhou. They make you feel like a million bucks. The food is excellent. The service is amazing. They brew their own beer. They go out of their way.
  Their gym is newly done. Lots of smokers around for a gym, but that's in the waiting area. Their gym equipment is new and sufficient. They have a nice pool for the kids.

  Had some screwup for my booking, which I was not sure if it was the fault of the hotel or Expedia. Front desk they insisted I had to use my own cellphone and not the hotel phone to call and clarify with the Expedia. Would have made me feel better if they had been more proactive in offering help to resolve, rather than leaving guest to sort things out themselves.
  Saving grace for service was when booking was resolved, the manager came over to sort things out personally and ensure I settled in well.
  Good location, next to a popular mall, Hunter's.
  Room was very clean and spacious. The city view offer by the room was splendid. Very good soundproofing, slept like a baby.
  4-5star for everything else, except the professionalism and sincerity of service.

  The hotel is rigth in downtown, walking distance to the only touristic spot in Guyang - Jia Xiu Lou. 2 years old and still the tallest building in the city, so expect good views from your room. BBF is extensive and with a good selection. There is a Paulaner on LV6, with home made Bavarian beer. Good sausages, though not the Kartoffelsalad. The Asst. Outlet Manager of the ADD is extreemly freiendly and helpflup, her name is Ivy Pu. Also the Chief Concierge called Oliver Chen was of great help! Defenetily a great hotel too stay!
