  My family booked the Hidden Dragon Villa through Cathay Pacific Holidays for a short-break holiday during Easter 2018. The hotel is located in a refurbished Ching Dynasty traditional courtyard house in Jo Wu Du Village about 7 kilometres outside Yangshuo. The hotel staff, who were very pleasant and helpful, organised taxi transfers to and from Guilin International Airport and locally when we wanted to do sightseeing. The hotel is conveniently located within easy walking distance of the Yulong River and the Big Banyan Tree while other local scenic spots like Moon Hill and the Gold Water Cave are also accessible on foot (about 30 minutes). The rooms are clean and comfortable but we requested a transfer from the tatami room on the ground floor after our first night as we did not enjoy the experience of sleeping on the floor and there was inadequate storage space for three persons. The restaurant on the top floor commands excellent views of the karst limestone scenery. The food was good but, as the cook doesn't work all the time, it was necessary to check with the reception staff as and when he was available. Luckily, there was a modern hotel just along the road with a good restaurant where we were able to eat if we couldn't eat at our hotel. One major criticism is that, on our final day, we were unable to have breakfast at the hotel as the cook wasn't working and were only able to have a bowl of noodles at the other hotel as they only had enough breakfast for their paying guests. Apart from the 'hit and miss' nature of the hotel meals, which is something of which all potential guests should be aware, we enjoyed our stay at Hidden Dragon Villa.

• Good value and nice view, in village away from crazy Yangshuo

  Elle the front desk manager gave us a warm welcome and spoke good English. Since it is low season and only 2 rooms are occupied, she upgraded us to a room on the third floor with a lovely view of the limestone hills. The restaurant is on the fourth floor with the same view, only higher! We had dinner there the first evening as we didn't know there were perhaps better restaurants in the neighborhood. Actually the pizza and vegetables were quite good and we enjoyed a nice bottle of Australian red wine for 180 yuan. Breakfast was okay, but the toast was underdone and only strawberry jam available. Our room is quite spacious with a good sized wardrobe. There was no bedside table on my side of the bed, so I improvised with a small stool that just fitted into the space to put my reading glasses etc. The bathroom is in dire need of maintenance and should be redecorated. The shower works fine but water leaks out onto the floor. But for the price, it is good value for money.

  Very cozy clean room. The view is breathtaking if you take a room with a view.
  If not, you can enjoy even better view from a terrace on the roof, open 24/7.
  Stuff was very helpful with everything. They english is very good. We have exchanged emails before my arrival. They helped me organize activities, rides to train station.
  The hotel is distant from downtown. But there are couple of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance.
  I enjoyed long walks along the river, bamboo rafting, and tea plantation. First two are minutes away from hotel, tea plantation is a half an hour taxi drive.
  I picked tea and brought it home with me. Dried it in my oven and now serve it to friends. At the tea plantation you can also enjoy traditional teas of all kinds.

  Nice hotel, we lived 2 nights, warmly welcome by the staff, clean and neat room, hotel view very good, especially the terrace, also nice food. the location is good. Will go next time.The staffs are very nice, gave us many advises for this tour, thanks.

  This small hotel offers a unique experience for those seeking lodging away from the crowd yet close enough to the main attractions. The view from the front rooms is incredible and are worth paying a little extra. The room is very clean although some maintenance is needed in the bathroom .
  You can rely on the staff to help you organize activities around the village.
