The best in Gulin
theboudoir09
Kuwait City, Kuwait | Jul 14, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayI usually go for luxury hotels or design boutique hotels, but this one is the nicest in the city of Guilin. 45 minutes away from the hotel. The area around isn’t one to walk around in, but the view from the river side of the hotel is beautiful. Diecai mountain is steps away, that’s the only thing apart from Li River (by hotel) that’s worth a visit.
The hotel caters to families the most. Spacious lobby. Great concierge services even though staff speak English not fluently so you’ll have a hard time understanding like most places in China. There’s a mini kids train that roams the garden area. There’s also a mini zoo! Nice for the kids. Tai Chi in the morning. Rooms are nice., General Manager at Shangri-La Hotel Guilin, responded to this reviewDear value guest,
Thank you for staying at our hotel and sharing your positive comments. We have taken note of your comment on the English of staffs. “Great location, lovely hotel”
sharon L
United Kingdom | Jul 2, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyGreat location, lovely hotel and friendly staff. We had a room overlooking the Li river. The room had a separate living area which we put a fold down bed in for out teenage son. Plenty of room for our 3 night stay. Chinese restaurant very good standard and choices for all nationalities in the breakfast dining room. Lobby bar in the foyer was a nice place for pre dinner drinks and the hotel also had a bar that brewed its own beer, excellent bar staff very friendly and welcoming with large screen for the World Cup!
The outdoor pool was closed which was a shame as the weather was hot. I am sure it will be a great place to relax by when renovated as the gardens are beautiful., General Manager at Shangri-La Hotel Guilin, responded to this reviewDear value guest,

Excellent Hotel

Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom | Jun 28, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesStayed here a couple of nights. Lovely hotel and, once again for Shangri La hotels, a wonderful breakfast buffet. Nice big rooms. Lovely gardens with exit gate to access the riverside walk. Shame the fountain was seeing overhauled.

Highs and lows but not what you expect from a Shangri-La
Roverbjc
Shanghai, China | Jun 23, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe staff are friendly and do try and help. We didn’t bring a pushchair for our toddler son whose battery is normally never ending, but he was unwell and the hotel kindly arranged a loan buggy, However, if you are used to typical Shangri-La international hotels, this hotel will disappoint you. This hotel is just a mass tourist hotel aimed at the local market. I can’t say I blame them, as this is their major market, but the hotel should be branded as a Traders hotel or similar, not a Shangri-La. The Shangri-La website says they are 5* luxury hotels. This ain’t.
The food is to a very average standard and no better than a typical 3* Chinese hotel. The food and service has gone local. Pink stinking tasteless sausages at breakfast, similar to what you could buy in Family Mart for 3 rmb each. Stale croissants that are so dry they shatter into a hundred pieces if you try and cut them and room service that cannot manage basic condiments like salt and ketchup and presents you with overcooked food.
Room decoration, I suppose a matter of taste, but a bit old fashioned.
300 rmb for a daily pass for children to enjoy most of the amenities! That was a surprise they don’t tell you about on the website. If you don’t want everything you can pay a “mere” 100 rmb for all day access to the children’s play area. A kids play area with balls and slides can be found in most decent hotels for free. 50 rmb for twice round the hotel on a toy train is a joke. A resort hotel that stings you for extras.
I wanted to leave a day early but my wife has persuaded me to stay the full four nights we booked, but I do so wish we’d stayed elsewhere. I’m sure we could have got a similar level of service and amenities for half the price of the Shangri-La.
I assume a hotel chain like the Shangri-La conducts audits their properties or at least hope they do, but standards here are not I expected. For the price and level of service I could not recommend it., General Manager at Shangri-La Hotel Guilin, responded to this reviewDear value guest,
Thank you very much for your recent stay at the Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin and taking up the time to bring to our attention on your unsatisfactory experience.
We are very disappointed that we were not able to meet your expectations during your stay. We have taken note of your comments and shared them with Kitchen. Rest assured that the corrective actions will be taken to rectify the situation and more staff training will be conducted in order to strive for better customer service in the future.
In regards of most of the recreation activities and facilities, unfortunately we don’t have any plan to provide free entrance of Kids Club at the moment. Hence, we suggest reserving our Family Package for your next stay via hotel Reservation Department which includes daily breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child under 12 years old, half day pass activities for 1 child under 5-12 years old during the stay (Inclusive of Mini Royal Train Tour, Bumper Boat, Mini Zoo Feeding, Rock Climbing Kid's Arts Crafts, fun at Kids Club and Game Lounge), one complimentary children tent during the stay, enjoy 20% off F& B and Guilin scenic spot tickets, enjoy 50% off SPA and pick-up from airport to hotel, enjoy RMB100 laundry credit during stay. And there are slides in the backyard garden for free.
Once again, thank you for your comments and we sincerely hope that we will have the opportunity to redeem ourselves and welcome you back to Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin in the future.
