Good hotel, but confusing.

This property is really grand but very confusing. As soon as we walked in the building, I was confused as to where to go. Check in was on the 22nd level if I remember correctly, rooms were on the lower levels, including the club lounge. All other hotels I’ve stayed at previously have guest rooms above the lobby. The layout of the room was also very confusing. Toilet and shower/sink were separated which was fine but they’re in the middle of the room, which took up a lot of space. It made the whole room very small and packed. The bathroom had too many doors with no locks! The tub was a small square size tub for petite individuals only. There was wasted space between the bathroom and bed due to the faulty layout of bathroom. Overall very bad design. First I was thinking the architect should be fired for this terrible design, but then I thought about it some more and decided the individuals who approved the design should be fired. Then I thought about it even more and gave hotel the benefit of the doubt. Maybe there’s a unbeknownst reason for the layout. Whatever it is, it was very confusing and wasted a lot space.

Even with this faulty design, the hotel was still very nice. The staff were all very friendly. Club lounge had an extensive selection of food for breakfast and cocktail hour. Hotel was located by a few shopping malls with underground food courts. We enjoyed our stay at this Grand Hyatt.

We really enjoyed our four night stay. Check-in was a breeze and the staff was very helpful. They provided us with adaptors for our electronics and appliances, changed our money and advised us about a scam that the local taxi drivers might pull. The concierge even helped track down a friend in the city by calling him at work when I couldn't get through because I didn't speak Chinese. We had a fabulous traditional Chinese dinner at The Penthouse and enjoyed the over the top breakfast each morning. We finally got the hang of the weird two elevator set-up where the lobby and restaurants are on the 22nd floor and the rooms on the floors. We also got an upgrade to a beautiful room that overlooked the modern, beautiful city and the Canton Tower. If I have the opportunity to visit Guangzhou in the future, I will be staying here!

With the lobby and check in counter on 22/f, this hotel really wanted to be different from other 5 stars. When entering the room, I was a bit confused on the layout as the shower and tub is in the middle of the room. I think the intention is to let the guest watching the TV when enjoying the bath. Breakfast was wonderful as it has great variety of choices. Overall, a good and comfortable stay
