• Decent, comfortable stay

  Have stayed at Dongfang Hotel a few times now, in various room types (premier room to one bedroom suite). In general, the rooms are huge as compared to other hotels I’ve stayed before. Comfortable bed with huge bathroom.
  
  The downside is that I find the room lights a bit too dim though. And the wifi signal is not consistent, got disconnected intermittently.
  
  Overall, will still come back considering the price point (as compared to nearby hotels).

• Grand hotel, flakey WiFi

  Large room with good facilities and complimentary water/tea in the room but patchy WiFi. Close to the Yuexiu metro (¥7 from the airport, up to 1 hour, take line 3 and then 2, the ticket is a green disc which I mistook for change at first). Breakfast buffet is comprehensive and there is a pool but you need to buy a cap). The conference facilities and lunch buffet was excellent. The bar is expensive (¥68/beer) but you can get cheap Chinese food and beer left and left out the hotel though avoid the shellfish... Both Yeixiu park and the lake park (mengyuan) are really impressive and there is a small 7-11 shop opposite Yeixiu and a small one in the metro station.

• Typical business hotel

  Huge hotel with many rooms. The rooms were clean and smoking not allowed. Gym was good with relatively new machines. Breakfast had a wide enough spread to not get bored after eating it for 3 days. Easy to get a taxi from the main reception. There are shops around the area which I believe you can get souvenirs or food products.

• A solid 3.5 star Hotel

  We booked two rooms to accomodate a family of 4. The rooms had once been 5 star but we’re a little tired and dated. It’s a massive hotel with hundreds of rooms so upkeep would be hard. Staff were friendly enough (although don’t walk barefoot through to the pool - seriously offensive!) the pool was great and the kids loved it. The food was ok and a good selection. Would I stay again. Yes.

• Really Good Overall

  Spent five nights at this hotel recently and was very pleased overall. The amenities are nice - hotel rooms, gathering areas (conference rooms, lobby, pool area, etc...) and restaurants are all clean and modern, with a nice flare of traditional Chinese as well. I recommend that you take a walk around the pool area at some point during your stay, it is very pleasant. Regarding the rooms, they are spacious (at least the one we had) with a nice bathroom (please note that the hot water for the shower was a bit spotty, sometimes it was fine and for others it was quite cold), lounging area and closet. The TV has a decent channel selection, including a sports channel dedicated to US based teams. The room's wifi was not particularly good - although I've been told the problem is not exclusive to this hotel. The staff is very friendly and hardworking, but there can be some issues with communication for English speakers. For instance, we struggled with arranging day-tours or getting directions with the concierge/front-desk on multiple occasions (fortunately for us, we had local friends who were able to arrange them instead). Breakfast was included with the room and featured a very nice spread of Cantonese, Chinese and Western items. I was a particular fan of the noodle soup bar. There is a shopping mall just outside the hotel where clothes and trinkets can be purchased (although I recommend going to city markets for better prices) - there are also some restaurants nearby. The tomb of the Nanyue King is only a few minutes walk away from the hotel. Additionally, there is a metro station just next to the hotel that can easily connect you to most of the city's sights and attractions. Overall, very nice hotel with a few relatively minor issues. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for visit Guangzhou for a few days.
