  Stayed at the Holiday Inn Guangzhou Shofu for 2 nights after our trip to Guilin before flying home.
  
  Hotel was about half hour from the Guangzhou North Railway Station by taxi and located at the Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street.
  
  Lobby is located at the 4th floor which makes makes it more secure. The security personnel were very good and were able to identify and remember guests very quick
  Y and will press the lift button before guest reach the "rooms" elevator. Observed the security question those who they do not recognized and ask to see their room access card.
  
  All the front office staff speak English and it was easy to convey requests. We had 2 rooms booked however, they were unable to put us on the same floor and they upgraded our room to an executive room which was huge and tastefully furnished. However, we had to decline the room after bringing our bags up as it was a smoking room on a smoking floor. Being sensitive to cigarette smoke, we asked for a non smoking room but they do not have non smoking executive room and gave us a standard room. The standards room was also large but not as big as the executive room. Bed was a king size and was pretty comfortable and a bit "soft" for us as we prefer "hard" beds but not a big issue.
  
  The toilet was a bit small but clean. There was a shower but no bath tub. ( the executive bathroom was very much larger and there was a bath tub and a separate shower area).
  
  We did not book breakfast at the hotel as our intention was to have "Dim Sum" for breakfast since we were in Guangzhou. ( see review of the Guangzhou Restaurant).
  
  Location was great as it is right in the middle( almost) of the pedestrian street with lots of shops and restaurants. We did not use the subway to move around the other areas but use the tax or ride hailing app "DiDi"
  
  Overall, we had a very good impression of the hotel and loved it. The hotel was large, clean, friendly and safe.
  
  Would we recommend the hotel? A big YES! Pricing is reasonable.

  Thank you Eva, for looking after me during my stay. you have provided great customer care beyond my expectation. i wish to stay here longer. From a smooth checkin, guest mailing assistance, beautiful spacious suite with super comfy bed nice bath tub and shower and big TV.
  Strongly recommended.
  the location is great. in the middle all the action, shopping and food in Shang xia jiu.
  
  Breakfast is awesome especially if you want to try local food. i stayed in other 2 five star hotels, the breakfast in Holiday Inn was more authentic chinese and tastier. from the range of porridge with chinese donuts, dimsum, smoked ducks, variety noodles station, 7 ways cooked egg station, pastries, hot food cantonese cuisine, cut fruits, etc. I would prefer to have breakfast here than the other high end restaurants.
  The manager Vincent was walking around checking the food quality and make sure the guest are well looked after.
  
  The quality and taste of the dimsum were divine!
  I miss them now.
  I strongly recommend this hotel for business, city, shopping and culture visit.

  Highly recommended! It was a wonderful stay. The staff are very helpful. Breakfast is excellent! a lot of choices both local and western. Location is very convenient, in the middle of shopping and eating streets. Depending on where your room is located it can be a bit noisy at night. We were on the 11th floor and we could still here to echoes from the streets below. The famous Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is just minutes from the hotel. If you in for a little sightseeing, bring comfortable shoes. About 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel there is the Metropolitan Plaza, a huge and contemporary shopping mall in Guangzhou, you can find starbucks, pizza hut, adidas, nike, and a huge supermarket on level 3 and this mall is about 5 minutes’ walk to Shamian Park - a beautiful, historic site from colonial times. We stayed the week for the Canton Fair. The hotel provides a free bus to the Canton Fair and are very prompt and efficient with the shuttle service, I’d recommend getting to the shuttle at least half hour before it departs to ensure you get a seat on the bus or else you have to wait on the shuttle to return for second pick up.

  We are a couple from the UK and stayed here during April 2019 for the Canton fair.
  
  This hotel was not really for us. It's not as "western" as we would have liked. If you are looking for a true experience of China and willing to eat all manner of "proper" Chinese food...then this might be a really suitable place for you, however.
  
  VERY few staff here speak any English whatsoever, so basic things are quite challenging.
  
  The western part of the menu is pretty limited, especially as we do not eat seafood.
  
  The area the hotel is in is a residential area and not ideal to go for a walk. It is VERY Chinese style area...expect to see all kinds of exotic foods etc being sold on the side of the road.
  
  The roof-top pool is just ok. It's a decent size but only 8 sunbeds around it. Luckily, no one ever seems to use it - so that's not a problem. The gym is well equipped and also on the roof top. The view from the roof/pool/gym is just of apartment blocks and run-down buildings. The pool-side bar is not operational any longer by the looks of things. It's a struggle to make the pool boy understand that you want a towel, so Google Translate comes in handy!
  
  In terms of TV, there are a handful of English-speaking channels: BBC World, CNN, National Geographic, RT News (think that's all).
  
  The all said, the rooms are nice and spacious and the hotel is clean. The few western menu items are not bad. Room service is prompt.
  
  We wouldn't stay here again and instead would look for a more western style hotel in a better location. If you do stay here, make sure to check out the "Metropolitan Plaza" which is a very modern shopping mall about a 10 minute walk away. It has a Pizza Hut and a couple of other familiar-ish restaurants. You'll see some very "interesting" sites on the walk there....

  Great service as usual. Thanks for Anna and Nancy help. Hence I can give my friend a birthday surprise.
  Good to see the hotel is carrying out a upgrade to their facility. Hopefully next time when I come back, more work will be done.
