  I spent 3 nights in the West wing which is the more historical of the two wings.
  
  I think the main advantage of staying here was the good location. Its on Shamian island which is peaceful and full of history. The hotel is close to a metro station if you want to visit other parts of the city and is also walking distance to the Pearl river. There is an inexpensive Chinese restaurant next to the hotel and a Starbucks around the corner.
  
  The room was clean and comfortable and i slept well. The only negative, as mentioned by another reviewer, was the dark hallways with shabby carpet that lead to the rooms.
  
  The staff were good especially Thomas Tang at reception in the East Wing. I collect hotel brochures and its becoming increasingly hard to find one in the digital age. However, Mr Tang made the effort to find me one for the hotel rather than just shrug his shoulders and say no. I really appreciated his efforts.

  Nice hotel located in the old City of Guangzhou with European architecture buildings around. Good location though a little bit moistures. Breakfast is normal and sufficient. Very good wi-fi so no problems to access internet

• Decent hotel on a historical site

  As most reviewers have mentioned there is the East and West wing at this hotel, they are about 100m apart and not connected. So it is important to know which wing you are booked into to avoid dragging your luggage about.
  
  Booked and stayed at the west wing, room is of a decent size with all the standard amenities for a comfortable stay. The room maybe dated but it is clean and well maintained. There is even a turndown service. WiFi is free and it’s connection decent. Very little to see on tv as most were broadcasting local channels.
  
  No real issue with front desk services, as with most places in China, the efficiency of the check in process is very much dependent on the queue and the staff manning it at the time (was lucky to get one that was able to multi tasked).
  
  Location of the place is not too bad. There is a lovely little park near by and another river side park closer to the river where you can even catch a river taxi ride to view the surrounding river scene. Plenty of informative and directional signs about the place to highlight the historical heritage of the place. Around the area there are a few drinking holes and restaurants within walking distance. You can even get a caffeine fixed from a Starbucks behind the hotel.
  
  The main let down of the place has to be the breakfast spread. There is limited choices and the seats are not comfortable for a relax dinning experience.
  
  Generally, it is a decent priced hotel to spend a couple of nights just to soak in the history of the place but this would not be the first choice hotel for a business or family vacation stay as there are other hotels in Guangzhou that could offer better value.

  Like rooms in China these were small but sufficient and were comfortable for our last stop before heading home. We had two rooms for 3 adults and a child. Breakfast was good. We loved walking around in the park like surrounding area.

• Avoid east wing, be wary of cigarette smell

  Booked a non smoking room, but that's a pipe dreambin China. Was able to disable the window lock and at least air the room out. East wing of the hotel is really ancient, book the West wing if possible. Location is quiet but feels a bit isolated. Really friendly staff. Room was a bit shabby, but actually quite clean.
