hotel before heading to Tibet

Sydney, Australia | Jul 21, 2025 | Trip type: Couplesbefore heading to Tibet we stayed in this hotel , the hotel is 100m from Tianfu Square
and Chenxi St shoppers paradise, When we were there Reminin St was under renovation taxis coudnt enter to the front of the hotel. The reception is on the 27th floor, we were upgraded to a suite, breakfast was ordinary, food are all around the hotel. The staff with little english were very helpful , Taxis are cheap. always carry the hotel card because the address is in chinese and taxi driver will take you to the address. -
Nice hotel
Garhub
Lyon, France | Oct 30, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessVery good hotel. I stayed during 2 nights at the 23th floor, nice view, big room and the bed is good. The price is little expensive than others hotel of Chengdu. Staff very nice speaks basic english, enough to book taxi or give some advices to visiting. Breakfast is not enough continental for occidental people. Very good situation, only 5 mn from Tianfu square and subway.

Really Average
Iw2ttw
Singapore | Sep 16, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawaySize of room is very comfortable. Cleanliness was average. Cups and glasses were not washed for a few days. Towels were discoloured, ie not white, and torn.
View from room on 15th floor was of the rooftop of next building. Guests smoked in the room. Entrance of hotel is in a back alley through a carpark. Traffic can be heard from the room.
Breakfast had a decent spread but was really not appetising. We skipped breakfast after the first day.
Staff were polite and one of them did speak English. -
Over the top in paper underpants.

Barcelona, Spain | Sep 14, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe room is pretty standard at this price though the emergency kit in the room catches the eye - it includes a condom, lubrication gel and a pair of paper underpants. The mind boggles.
The room was on the 16th floor. I'm always worried about fire - but there is a coil of rope on the hotel landing which should come in handy if you have to shimmy down the building.
The restaurant is a surprise - if you lower expectations and eat out of schedule hours - a late dinner earned a 20% discount. Breakfast? A total bunfight - the tables aren't cleared as guests leave, you have to find a clean place and sit with a group. All a bit like boarding school. Give it a miss it you don't like group meals (if you're like me.)
Speaking English is a challenge for the staff which gives rise to some amusing scenes where communication breaks down. -
Dreadful Service
DjangoC
Manchester, United Kingdom | Mar 19, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe hotel facilities are average for this class, but the service is dreadful. Very few of the customer-facing staff have adequate English to do their jobs, and while this is understandable in a provincial area, in a hotel pretensions to international status in a big city like Chengdu, it's not excusable that even the front desk staff can't string a sentence together in English in order to deal with foreign guests. It wasn't just language though; everything I had to ask the staff became problematic, and there was a real impression of a lack of any basic customer service training. On arrival I asked about a package I knew would be waiting for me; when he eventually understood what I was asking the desk clerk rang down to the concierge, and the assured me there was no package waiting. As he hadn't at this stage taken my name I'm not sure how that would have worked. I phoned a Chinese speaking friend and asked her to help, and lo ad behold the package appeared... Booking a train ticket was a trial and frankly it would have been easier to get a cab to the station and do it myself. I nearly missed my train as getting a taxi is another struggle - the hotel insist on phoning for cabs, despite the fact that 2 out of 3 vehicles passing outside is a taxi and any other hotel would just send out the bell hop to flag one down for you. Minimum wait 15 minutes. As you wait you can listen to the same single dreary bossa nova tune looping hour after hour. No wonder the door staff who have to listen to this dirge every three minutes all day have vacant expressions; after just 20 minutes it was driving me completely round the twist.
Getting a meal out of room service was very tricky the first night and proved impossible the second, and when I asked about the possibility of buying a bottle of wine to go with it they apparently wanted the equivalent of $150US for a single bottle. While we're on food, get ready for breakfast - mediocre food obviously, but what's exciting is that they lay the tables with chopsticks and forks only - no knives. I didn't even dream of asking for a knife, but good luck if you want to eat a fried egg.
The Minyoun is very good at patting itself on the back and telling you what an extraordinary 'hotel of beauty and elegance' it is. With the service the way it is, it's frankly pisspoor. With a real concerted effort it could raise itself to average. There are little cards around the place where you could nominate staff members for smiling; "turn me in if my smile makes you feel warm and comfortable". They could do with a lot less of this kind of fartarsing around and far more thinking about what international guests want and need, and, frankly, a bit of common sense. And I didn't see as much as a smirk from the staff - clearly they're just as hacked off with the place as the guests are.
