  The hotel is situated 5 minutes away from the Panda reserve, which suited us as that what our visit was all about, however from the main train station it is about and hour and ten minute drive if the taxi doesn’t use the toll roads, ands good 50 minute drive to the airport.
  
  We stayed here for 2 nights, first impression of the hotel, it’s an old one and it looks tired in places, think it needs a revamp, room was good enough, though the a/c is bad, asked for someone to look at it, 1 hour later he came, didn’t do much and we were left with what it was like before.
  
  Order room service, if would be helpful if they had an employee who could speak a little English, instead of someone putting the phone down on you as they couldn’t understand you. The food was just average and I ordered spaghetti carbonara and I got spaghetti bolognese, so that went back, my husband ordered soup and it was cold, asked for some ice and that took 45 minutes to come, and it was the same person who appeared every time, most only employ one person for this job.
  
  Breakfast was average, huge amount of choice for the Chinese clientele, but not so much for the western clientele, even the tea, I asked for breakfast tea and got green tea.
  
  Would I stay again, no sorry

  Nice hotel with helpful staff. A beautful outdoor pool, and good gymfacilities.
  The SPA was really good, well equipped with sauna and good showers.
  An extra plus for the food, that was both western and chinese.
  The location is very good for pandapark, very bad for city.

  We chose the Crown Plaza Panda Garden as the last hotel in our China trip to relax by the pool (and see the panda's of course). It's perfect for the panda's but if you want to get there from the railway station (as we wanted) or want to go in to town to eat in the evening, be aware that taxi's will refuse to use the meter (or will ask for an extra charge if they do) because the hotel is so far out.
  
  So, the pools: the outdoor pool is great. It's huge, there weren't a lot of people, they have some slides and a fake beach. I hate sand, but my kids loved it, so great marks for that.
  But on our first day it rained, so we went to the indoor pool. There you have the problem that we encountered in all the hotels with we pool we stayed in in China: swimming lessons. The pools in luxury hotels are used by Chinese people to give their kids private swimming lessons. So half the pool is reserved almost all day for swimming lessons. In the other half (which isn't that big) you had the combination of hotel guests who wanted to do laps (as I understand), kids who wanted to play and some locals who came to swim. It's really not ok, that you have to share the hotel pool with swimming lessons from morning till evening.
  
  Rooms are fine. Just what you expect in a Crown Plaza. English knowledge at front desk and also at the concierge desk was really good compared to other hotels we've been to in China
  
  Food: we took the buffet one night and is was nice. Actually so nice that we went twice (by the way, you can find some restaurants at walking distance). Breakfast was good if you're Chinese. If you western stuff: there are plenty of eggs and sausages and yoghurt and fruit, but they lack bread: it's not fresh, if you come early it's half frozen. I understand that at the moment there are not that many Western tourists, so perhaps that's way, but good bread is really an essential.
  Also: great that there's cheese, but don't put it under a lamp. It's good to get in on room temperature, but this way it gets sweaty. And tip for the hotel: cut a bit of every cheese so people know how they're suppose to take some cheese. We saw a Chinese kid taking the whole Camembert, not knowing what it was and leaving it on his plate after one bite. We wanted Camembert :))
  
  All in all: nice stay, but some points that could be better.

  Absolutely a lovely hotel with lovely staff, bending themselves every time again to make you feel at home! From Paul Ali at the reception (and his lovely female staff) to Kobe and Bob at the concierge desk. Not to forget the always smiling staff at the breakfast area!
  Rooms are huge, well kept and lovely decorated. The hotel is based at a nice and quiet urban area, about a 15 min drive (in traffic) from the panda base. Going to Chengdu however takes much longer, not only because of the traffic but because of the distance too. As there are not many restaurants or places to go nearby, we ended up taking several taxis into town. Next time, I would book a hotel in the center.
