  The Sofitel in Chengdu is located just a short stroll away from the city shopping central area and Tianfu Square. I'm sure though with the construction growth of Chengdu this will become prime position in years to come. Hotel was immaculate. The pool and ajoined gym area was clean and inviting but I barely had time to just take a photo. What i did enjoy was my upgrade to an executive suite. Previous review mentions of dated furniture seem unfounded or are out of date. This had quality furnishings and a soft comfy bed I am accustomed to. Perhaps I should have tried the pillow menu. But this level of hotel was a step up from my usual so I wasn't disappointed by the standard. The one thing that annoyed me was a lack of seating areas in the foyer front area as i waited for a friend. But that's clutching at straws. This still was a grand hotel area welcoming arrival. Breakfast had a great selection catering to multiple cultural perspectives. Juice selection was so good.

  'Kings' breakfast and service.
  Rooms were spacious and lavishly decorated.

  We stayed as a family for 2 nights and it was ok
  
  As we checked in the staff mentioned a buffet supper for around £30 per person so we decided to try it out. We arrived at around 5.45pm which is a little early for us however we had been traveling all day so thought it was a good idea.
  
  Within 5-10 minutes of being in a quiet restaurant carnage then took over. There was a conference for some local people who could also bring their families for supper. When I say 200 people plus rushed in and cleared the buffet I am not joking. This left next to no food at times for long periods and it looked like absolute chaos to even get near things like meat and sea food. Someone from the hotel or restaurant should of mentioned this prior to us attending and then at least we would of expected it.
  
  The hotel was clean and well kept however there was a severe lack of English speaking people for such a large hotel. Even the concierge couldn’t speak very good English which is not very helpful in a new city.
  
  After two nights we were glad to leave, however the hotel is adequate and clean. The location is fine as the tube is 5 minute walk.

• Comfort and style along the river walk

  I spent 3 comfortable nights in a great room with a view of the river. Great central location and big selection at the breakfast buffet - Chinese, Japanese and Western dishes. Huge bathroom and nicely decorated room.

  Good clean 4 star hotel situated next to the river. Has an indoor pool and decent gym. Good quality buffet breakfast and the rooms are nicely furnished
  
  While location is next to river there is a very busy road between hotel and river and the shopping/bar/restaurants area is about 1 mike way
