Beijing on a Budget

Mtunzini, South Africa | May 22, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessA fabulous introductory trip for me began with a week in Beijing when I accompanied my husband who was attending a conference there. This hotel room came with two breakfasts and was within easy walking distance to the Science Centre as well as the Olympic stadium and water park. A nearby underground station made exploring the city really convenient and I felt safe even venturing out on my own.
The rooms were dated but huge, with a fridge which I froze bottles of water in each night to take out exploring in the heat each day - cleanliness is somewhat lacking although our sheets and towels were fine.
The bed was king sized and on the firm side. Laundry fees were outrageous but it was easy enough to wash clothing in the bath and hang over the line provided as we needed - irons were freely available from reception.
English was not good with either the front desk or the restaurant staff, but it was handy to have free wireless to research attractions etc.
Do not expect English television apart from CNN and nice to have would have been an extractor in the bathroom.
Use the concierge to hail a taxi off the street if you want to use one - we paid one hundred yuan for three of us to get back to the airport thanks to the concierge, after paying double for the inward bound trip which we had to negotiate ourselves.
Expect a mix of Western and Chinese food in the restaurant, but you will fare better if you just decide to eat Chinese - there are some strange combos! And if you like your own tea, take some bags along. -

Very convenient location, with easy access to a couple of famous restaurants . Train station is just 2 minutes walking. Price is around US$85-110.

More than Satisfied with the Hotel

Gurugram (Gurgaon), India | Nov 18, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayThe Hotel is located near the Olympic Park, The famous Bird's nest stadium. It is slightly away from the main city centre but the locality seems posh and safe with good eateries around.
I was highly impressed with both the rooms and the service. The suites were pretty big in size, and had every amenity you might possibly need. The service was pretty responsive too. The staff has a bit of an English speaking issue, but then that's the problem you face in every part of China.
They have free wifi, but unfortunately it only works in the lobby and not our rooms. Our group of 35 people stayed here for 5 days, and each of us had a good experience.
