Nice Hotel - Mediocre Service
suntravel2000
Sacramento, California | Sep 30, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe hotel is elegant and modern; however, service is mediocre - typical of most hotels in China. Chinese service is just not up to Western standards. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast buffet is excellent with both Chinese and Western choices. I would still recommend this hotel for Western travelers.

"We follow our rules, who gives a damn about the guest?"

Saint Louis, Missouri | Aug 8, 2025 | Trip type: Businessbeautiful, well designed, immaculate hotel, whose service standards do not even begin to live up to its polished exterior. Despite speaking fluent Chinese and being fully accustomed to Chinese hotel preferences after 10 years in the country, I had a miserable stay due to poor service, such as:
1. reception requires a ¥500 deposit, fine. But then if you put anything on the room (such as room service or dining hall tab) they call you as late as 9:30 at night to ask you to come down to the reception to give them more money! They called me back twice about this.
2. There is no breakfast and no gym usage within the room rate...those are extra. You are required to order breakfast 24 hours in advance, or pay ¥150! (double the normal buffet price). We couldn't make the breakfast we ordered, and they refused to allow us to use the credit for another day. After half-hour of discussing, they agreed to send a doggy bag to our room: 1 cold fried egg, a small plastic tub of yogurt, 1 small bun and 1 piece of toast. For ¥80!
3. Don't bother pressing the "do not disturb" sign...they will disturb you anyway. Housekeeping does not refill the mini-bar. There is only one beer in the fridge. The trash can is placed (and re-placed every day despite me moving it far away, every day) next to the toilet in such a way that a man can not pee without first moving the trash can.
In fact— so robotic and unthoughtful are the housekeeping staff that —although I had 20 articles of wet clothing hanging on the line in the bathroom, with the window open and the blind pulled up to foster drying—they pulled the blind down and closed the window, so that none of my stuff could dry before I check out. The maid certainly had to climb into the bathtub, ducking under my wet underwear in order to accomplish this.
4. They add a 30% charge to the already exorbitantly overpriced (and under-flavored) room service menu.
lots more—
—the only plug to put in the clothes iron is inside the closet, which means the cord can not reach to actually iron. You get about 30 centimeters of leeway to do your ironing, if you can manage not to burn yourself
—not one staff speaks even one word of English. Unheard of in a modern 4-5 star Chinese hotel. I speak fluent Chinese but I have no idea how a non-Chinese speaking guest would manage.
—Dining hall service is slow, slow, slow...you have to ask over and over again for a menu, the food, your drink, ketchup, the bill, a revolver and a bullet or a capsule of cyanide.....
—there is nothing nearby...no restaurants, shops, etc. Only one bar attached to the hotel, which has an outdoor seating area...with umbrellas for when it rains...2/3 of which are broken and are apparently not being replaced or repaired.
— had power outage which killed internet for some hours....made me stay up until 1 am and still miss my deadline.
Kudos to the architect, interior designer and uniform designer of this hotel.
Those were the only good decisions the owners of this establishment made. -
Impressed With all round facilities and service

Mar 7, 2025Recently stayed here overnight after a long flight from London. Was initially unsure prior to booking as hotels in China vary in quality. Upon arrival though I was impressed by the loom and feel of the hotel. The staff was nice and courteous and I was checked into my standard room quickly.
Once inside the room, it was clean, spacious and comfortable. Everything had Chinese and English, they supply you with toothbrush, comb, to very soft towels to iron. All was very useful and appropriate. The bed was very comfortable and had a very good sleep.
The wifi was weak on the lower floors, but they came and supplied with a wifi booster and from then on the Internet was smooth.
Overall I was impressed with the comfort and services of the hotel and considering the moderate price I paid, I was left very impressed.
The hotel may be aimed for more business customers than holiday goers as I'm unsure that it is too close to Central tourist areas.. However it's close to the Metro and therefore very easy to get around Beijing. -
Great place for locals and foreigners alike
