Nice hotel but bad AC
clarisoon
Oct 10, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayThe room and bathroom were spacious with comfortable fittings. We only had the breakfast but it was a good mix of Chinese and western food choices. The only problem was the at times unbareable stuffy and hot room due to poor AC. This made the overall stay in the hotel less pleasurable than it could have been.

mixed feelings

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg | Apr 21, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayThe positives sides of this hotel have been the large rooms and the helpful staff. Unfortunately they could not fix the problem with the air conditioning which lead to a high temperature combined with dry air inside of the rooms. For our second night they opened our window which helped a little bit. Additionally, due to its situation on a big road, the noise level was quite high. I expect more from a 4-Star hotel.

Good, modern facilities - staff English poor
MikeCamel
Cambridge, UK | Feb 6, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI stayed her as it was booked for a conference I was attending. The room I was staying in was large, with a decent bath and shower. There were two working wifi SSIDs, though the coverage was patchy, and Internet access, of course, subject to the vagaries of the Great Firewall. It's worth using the ethernet connection (cable provided by the hotel) in the room, which seemed much faster and reliable.
The hotel was clean and tidy throughout, with good modern facilities: the conference was also well-managed. There is a Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor, and the restaurant on the 1st floor often has more Western-style food choices, though you should expect a good selection of Asian food too: the quality at both was good.
The only issue I had is that the staff's English is poor, and this is less a reflection on them than on my ability to speak Mandarin (which is the local language, after all!). I would advise against staying here unless you have some Mandarin or will be accompanied by friends or colleagues who do. Tasks as simple as ordering a taxi to the airport became very difficult, and staff would often look for a colleague to help, though the second person's English was often not much better.
All in all: a good, modern hotel, but not well-suited to travellers with no Chinese.
Tips:
- Taxis to the airport can take up to 90 minutes, depending on traffic. Should still only cost around 130 Yuan
- On arriving from the airport, ensure BEFORE THE TAXI DEPARTS that the taxi driver puts the meter on. DO NOT accept a "fixed rate" due to the time of day
- Use ethernet access in your room for better online speed
- Learn Mandarin... -
Pretty good hotel, better than expected

Dec 5, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyOn a recent tour group trip to Beijing one of the hotels we stayed at was the New Grand Century in Beijing. It's located just off a busy road but there are shops nearby and the subway is within walking distance (that's if you brave enough to cross the maniac roads of China).
The lobby of the hotel seemed very plush and according to the blurb we got, this was "5 star hotel", unfortunately the rooms didn't quite live up to the "5 star" billing. Don't get me wrong, the rooms were a decent size, probably bigger than anything we've stayed in before, but it didn't scream "5 star".
Still, once checked in we didn't really want to go out to eat so ate in the restaurant (The Jade Café) which was actually pretty good. For about £16 a head we had an all you can eat buffet which included rice, noodles, various meat dishes, veg dishes, desserts (consisting of cakes and biscuits) and we got vouchers to trade in for steaks and seafood (whole crab and scallops). We ate our fill and then some.
Sleep wise the rooms were comfortable and clean. However, on a return visit (we actually stayed there on two separate occasions on the tour trip) we had problems with the lighting in the room and an engineer had to called up. When he eventually arrived (after two or three phone calls to reception) he couldn't get some of the lights to work and asked us if it was okay for us to use the bathroom in the dark and to just leave the door open to get light... Errrr... No...
After 30 minutes he managed to get nothing working, had to call a colleague who managed to make EVERYTHING stop working in the room. We were eventually given another room (with a massive bathroom) but the staff were very reluctant to do so as it was a bigger room...
Still, each morning we had ourselves a buffet breakfast, which curiously consisted of stuff left over from the dinner buffet as well as other items which you'd probably not recognise as breakfast (fish soup and chicken wings being some). Still, when in China...
Other than the reluctance of staff to help us with the light situation this was a rather decent hotel to stay at. Nice rooms, nice restaurant, close to amenities and transport, but it certainly wasn't 5 star. -
Very good hotel, but staff English not strong
Feobrien
New Jersey | Sep 23, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThis is a very large, Western Style hotel. The only real negative is that staff English is not very strong, they tried very hard. The location, while in the downtown area did feel a little remote. the number of restaurants in walking distance is pretty limited. The rooms are quite large. My room had a king bed, a desk and chair. Oddly the desk chair was not a wheels, so it was difficult to push to and from the desk. The Internet performance was fair to poor. The main restaurant was large with a variety of food choices. It was difficult to order off the menu, but the buffets were extensive. With a few minor improvements this could be a really great hotel.
