A mixed pot.

Sheffield, United Kingdom | Nov 15, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelGreat location for the bell and drum tower and the subway. Wonderful architecture and so pretty in the courtyard. There are even two turtles and a cat hanging around to admire! The room.... Well! Holes in the walls and burn holes in the carpet, one working plug socket (the ac one half way up the wall) and a hard bed. But this is forgiven when the surrounding are so beautiful and when you stay somewhere authentic. It didn't seem to matter. Clean bathroom and bedding as well as fair toiletry selection and free bottled water refreshed daily.
Perfect for the price. Not somewhere to stay if you're looking for luxury, but worth a few nights for the experience and surroundings! -
Fabulous location!

Calgary, Canada | May 28, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesSituated a short walk away from the Bell and Drum towers, Lama Temple, Confucius Temple and Imperial College, Behai Lake, and the enchanting little hutongs full of shops and eateries, this hotel a perfect place to stay! If you are a little more energetic, Jingshan Park, and the Forbidden City are also within a 'long' walking distance. There is a subway station a block from the hotel also, and plenty of restaurants can be found in the area.
The hotel itself is a converted Ming Temple, and the courtyards and architecture are beautiful. We stayed in 2 rooms, both facing into the courtyard. Although very small, they are functional. The bathroom is clean and a hair dryer is provided. The rooms unfortunately, desperately need paint as many stains can be seen on the walls. The other major negative was the mattresses, without exaggeration, like sleeping on a hardwood floor! Extremely uncomfortable. A kettle and tea are available.
Breakfast was included for us, and was adequate. Mostly local food, noodles, rice, vegetables, steamed buns etc, but there was a toaster and egg station. Wifi was quite reliable there and in the lobby.
The staff speak very limited English, but we were able to communicate most of our needs.
This hotel is a lovely little piece of Chinese heritage, and is worth staying in for a day or two despite the beds! -
Amazing Architecture, Suitable Rooms, Great Location
TinLizzy7
New York City, New York | May 9, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawaySo there are some amazing things about the Soluxe that makes this a really great place to stay. If you are the type of person who likes to hang out in your hotel room, this might not be the place for you. But if you like clean sheets, clean bathroom and a great location, then this is an amazing value.
First, the good. The Soluxe is right around the corner from the Number 2 subway line at the Drum Tower location. Because cabs are impossible to get these days in Beijing, you will be using the subway A LOT. Also, it is two stops from the line that takes you to the airport. Because it is in the Drum Tower area, there are amazing hutongs that you can explore in the morning or on your walk to the Lama Temple. What also is mind-blowing are the courtyards. Definitely get the courtyard room because it is worth it and I would recommend paying the extra for the slightly bigger courtyard room because the standard is small if there are two of you with a lot of luggage. The service is also very good - bathroom is cleaned everyday and the shower is a separate section of the bathroom. English is not great upon check-in but you will get by. Even if you booked ahead, they will ask for a deposit but they will return it to you upon check out. They were very honest.
Here are the things that might give some people pause if you are into staying in your hotel instead of getting up and going out for the whole day. It caters more to the Chinese tourist - so there are no English channels on the TV. Also, the amenities in the room are very basic and the bed is a hard mattress. Each room could use a fresh coat of paint for sure and sometimes there are things that puzzle you - evidently someone before us killed a fly on the wall but that was never cleaned off. So those little things don't get a lot of attention. Also, we stayed in multiple rooms (we kept coming back to Beijing after trips to other cities), the wifi works better in some rooms than others (but it always works well in the lobby).
We paid $55/night for one standard courtyard room. It was an amazing deal in an awesome location. And the courtyards are awesome - to wake up to seeing that every morning was really cool. If they put that detail into maintaining and fixing up the rooms, that would make this a 5 star place but it would likely also make it much more than $55/night. -
UNIQUE COUTYARD HOTEL

indonesia | Jan 6, 2026 | Trip type: Familyif you want to experience the real Chinese cultural, maybe this is the hotel you like,
the atmosphere is very old chinese house, close to hutong residential, with alley and local people.
i went there last year, and forget to write down the review..but i still remember the ambiance..because the unique and experiencing hotel.
didn't know about the staff service,we didn't talk much due the lack of English from the staff.
its very common in china with poor English.
because this courtyard hotel, please consider if you want to stay in winter.
the room is small, hard to find spot for luggage.and the bathroom quite smell bad.
i stay in deluxe room, with courtyard view, its still too small for me.
but the location is very close to subway.its very helpful.

Extraordinary

China | Dec 28, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyStayed for 4 nights with my family. It was transformed from 2 Ming temples. Elegant decoration with garden and basic hotel facilities.
Easy to find as once you get out from subway station and it is less than 5 minute's walk. Rooms are spacious with basic facilities but the carpet flooring seems haven't cleaned for quite some time. No lift as one have to bring his own luggage up and no bell boy service provided. Daily house cleaning limited to tidy up beddings, cleaning dusk pin and changing towels only. Wifi reception in room is weak.
There is a restaurant located inside the hotel offering buffet breakfast with limited western choice. Restaurants, fast food shops, mini mart and tourist spots are easily found nearby.
Down the alley, you can find a bus terminal to get direct bus to the Great Wall.
