Good budget option in Beijing
robandrea
Ontario | Apr 14, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWe only spent one night in this hotel and picked it so we could stay in a hutong hotel at an affordable price (about $30 a night).
The hotel had a fun layout, centered around a nice courtyard (too cold to use in March). The rooms all open an semi-enclosed hallway but the room was warm.
The room was very small and very basic. It was reasonably clean but not spotless.
Location wise, it is outside of the "touristy area" but close to the Ping'An subway station (which has escalators all the way up- bonus for carrying luggage) and walking distance to Beihai Park. It is located down a narrow street which could make you uncomfortable if traveling alone or arriving late at night.
We recommend this hotel for a short stay in Beijing for a budget minded traveler. -
We were quite apprehensive at first but we think it's worth it...

Alor Setar, Malaysia | Jan 10, 2026 | Trip type: Friends getawayWe stayed here for 2 nights. Friendly staff and clean place, although the hotel can improve a bit on their housekeeping effort - beds were not made by the hotel during our entire stay there. Toilet paper was only replenished on day 1 and we had to ask for those from the front desk on the other day. The in room phone was not working too but it was not fixed by the time we check out. There were funny rubbery smell in our bathroom but nothing intolerable.
We were actually booked on another hotel (Hostel 161) which is Super 8 Xisi's sister hotel. Booking for the hostel was made online via booking.com and we only learned that the hostel was closed for renovation 1 week prior to our departure to Beijing when we wrote in to confirm our stay. We were indeed very apprehensive at that point but Hostel 161 has assured us that they have transferred our booking to Super 8 Xisi with no extra cost incurred.
The hotel required RMB100 as deposit upon check in, which is refundable. Hair dryer and mosquito mat heater was available in the room.
We are happy as we have only paid for a 2-night-stay at a hostel but ended up staying in a courtyard hotel. We had to change our itinerary a bit but it was worth the stay. -
Great place

Shanghai | Sep 24, 2025 | Trip type: Business , SoloI stayed at Lotus Hostel one month - and I really can recommend it. the atmosphere is great and after a busy day in Beijings streets, the peaceful courtyard is like a oasis. The staff is nice and friendly and the manager Samantha speaks English and French fluently. She is very helpful with anything - from a tour to the Great Wall to what to do, when you lost your passport. The hotel is located in small street in a busy part of Beijing, so it takes not more than 15 minutes to got to the Forbidden City. You also can walk to Houhei Lake, where are many bars.
Single rooms are beautiful, but the shared bathroom is a bit shady. It is a really good deal! -
Wonderful little heaven hidden in the bustling Beijing

Florence, Italy | Sep 3, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayExcellent hostel, very very friendly and knowledgeable staff, good location close to subway. Good atmosphere and very spacious courtyard, I would go back if travelling to Beijing again. Good restaurant, very convenient. Stayed in a double-bed room, and it was just fine. Good for people looking to have a good stay and meet people in a relax set up. Organized tour to Great Wall for 300 yuan is very good, worth it, no shopping and going to a nice part of the wall. The staff really tried their best to answer your questions and to solve your problems.

san francisco | Nov 5, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesI've been traveling with my girlfriend around the world for four months and we've stayed in some questionable hostels/hotels/air bnb rooms/couchsurfing couches on our journey. We just got off the trans-siberian rail after six full days in a train compartment with two other people without shower facilities so we're accustomed tight spaces, odd smells, and lack of privacy. With that background, the staff at the Lotus Courtyard (owned by super 8) Hotel were very nice and we knew the rooms would be small, which isn't a problem for us. They even gave us a good recommendation for a restaurant on the next street. The issue was the smell emanating from the bathroom which, as another reviewer described it, was sewage gas. It's a familiar smell to anyone that has walked over the man-hole covers on the streets of Beijing or New York. Not a problem on the street, big problem in a room. Perhaps it's limited to that specific room, or even the four that are in the cluster, but after having the door closed all night the smell from the bathroom in the morning was a punch in the face. I'm fairly certain it's not an easy (cheap) problem for the hotel to remedy, so I didn't bother trying to convey the issue to the staff. We did come across the smell again in a hostel the next night, though not to the same extent, so I'm not outraged by the situation-it was just below expectations.
