  This is really a nice place to stay, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Traditional set up down an alley (hutong) but I never felt unsafe...although I did get the 'Chinese stare' everywhere I went, but this may have something to do with my ginger beard. Staff in hotel are excellent - friendly and helpful, I also organised a trip to the Great Wall. Rooms were to a good standard, and the courtyard was a nice place to relax. Hotel is about a 15/20 minute walk from the metro. Breakfast was decent. If I went back to Beijing I probably wouldn't stay here, not because I didn't like it, just that I would prefer to be a little closer to the action, and nip out for a beer, but that's just preference. It was a great place for my first time and act as base!

  I loved my stay in Michael' House. From the moment I arrived (at 3am mind you) I was made to feel welcome. The room was well kept and had a very new feeling about it and the courtyard was lovely. It is a covered courtyard so there isn't any 'fresh' air (if there is such a thing in Beijing), but the place never felt stuffy.
  It is a bit of a walk from the subway, which can be hard with tired feet after a day sightseeing, but it is well worth the walk. I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Beijing.

  Quiet, peaceful and very comfortable place to stay - very different from the usual hotels. Nice lounge for mixing with other guests. Helpful and attentive staff, very clean rooms, comforatble beds Recommend highly to all types of travellers

  I just like to start this review by saying that the customer service at this place was great!!!! Location is about 10 min from the Subway Station the area around the hotel is decent but not a wealthy area more like a lower scale area, but its safe room was confortable and the the buffet breakfast was good, but the customer service at Michaels House is what made my trip more pleasant because of the help even gave us a umbrella because they said it may rain (weather.com said only clouding) but yes what!!! it rained. Thank you Michaels house for a great stay in Beijing.

  When have I ever left a hotel and had the owner's wife and concierge hug us goodbye?? NEVER until I stayed here!
  1. Closest metro stop is Jishuan on Line 2. Yes, cab drivers have no idea where this is, so I would just walk from the metro, about 5-10 minutes. The hotel also gives you a little card in Chinese to give cab driver directions, super smart and useful.
  2. They have no idea where it is bc yes, it's on a very random street. I liked how authentic it felt though. I felt like I was really on a random Beijing street exploring. There are actually 2 other hotel/hostels on the street and plenty of dining options.
  3. The room was small but definitely enough space. Clean. Not modern (the water pressure was terrible) but just fine. Certainly fine for the price. Paid $63 for king bed.
  4. Would have been nice to have a window or fresh air, but all good with indoor garden. Breakfast was fine too.
  Staff sooo nice. Spoke good English. Really cared about our stay. Michael even offered to lend my friend money when she lost her debit card!
