Nice place to stay
Chris M
Jun 30, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesI booked this place because it looked interesting and at the time was very competitively priced. I got a discount through a Chinese app and ended up staying for a week while traveling.
My room was on the inside and it was next to the night managers room or something. She was on and off the phone all night and whenever someone needed anything I could clearly head the conversation.
That brings up the next point, if you have to leave your room to request anything, soap, towels, hair dryer, someone to fix the bathroom door so you can have some privacy, don't. All of the reasonable requests that I overheard from the locals to the management were met with "No," "Tomorrow," "I don't have one," or "You have to pay more." Luckily I didn't need much while backpacking so I was fine.
Check-in means calling the manager and letting them know you are there. They were close by but not in the office. The room had a dirty floor, bathroom was okay, bed was nice, you standard mid-tier Chinese hotel experience. The wifi was alright with decent speeds, VPN had issues though. I was able to do my work. -
Fantastic location ideal to be in the hip Hutong area

Cape Town Central, South Africa | Jul 16, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayClean and centrally located - 2 minutes walk to the subway and across the road from the Lama temple in a very vibey neighbourhood. Very Chinese in its decor and service so if this doesn't appeal then go somewhere more bland - this was in the Vuitton Guide to Beijing and for the price it was very good value indeed . Location, Location , Location gives it 5 stars from me.

A wonderful position outweighs some some eccentricities

Jul 12, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesIf you are looking for the Hilton styled hotel then you need to stay in the Hilton. This is a quirky hotel in probably one of the best positions in Beijing. Right next to the Lama Temple, the beautiful traditional Hutongs and the subway station, this hotel gives you an ideal location. We found it to be very quiet and despite the room being small, it was adequate for our needs.
Like most places in Beijing English is not widely spoken so communication can be a little difficult at times but the Hotel was very helpful when we needed them.
This hotel is right next to a fabulous vegetarian restaurant, a famous dim sum palace which serves dim sum 24-hours a day and western restaurant called the Vineyard. There is a costa coffee also nearby. -
Very bad hotel - avoid it!

Sep 27, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWorst hotel we have ever stayed in. The only good thing about this hotel is the location, which is directly at the drum and bell tower, otherwise there are no good things about it. Very hard to find. We couldn't check in, because the co-worker there said he never got any reservations from "Venere" and he didn't know this website at all. After a while, he offered us the worst room of all (without windows, dark and seems dirty, but later we knew all rooms there were dirty!!), because he meant that we could only get the worst room for what we had paid. Again after a long negotiation, he gave us a little better room upstairs in which the TV did not work, the floor was very dirty, the toilet did not have a cover, instead they put some cardboard on it. There is no working light in the bathroom, actualy there is only one light in the whole room and it's just some half broken standing lamp! Water pressure in the hotel is soooooooo low that when two or more rooms use water at the same time, there is only little water coming out, sometimes no water! One more BIG problem in our room (don't know about other rooms), it was like a swimming pool when we had a shower, the water doesn't flow off! If you tell the staff about the problems the only answer you get is "yes, we know" but they do not want to fix anything at all. Further there seems to be no room service (at least if you don't ask for it). We would never come to this hotel again and think that "Venere" should remove it from the site.

Poor service

Geertruidenberg, The Netherlands | May 26, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesGood location in a Hutong near Bell Tower and in an area with lots of nice bars to have a drink at night.
There is no 24-hour reception. At check-in and check-out nobody was present and we had to make an expensive phonecall to reach a staff member.
We used the "luggage storage". Our bags were stored in a locked room, but when we came back our luggage was moved to another room with an unlocked door in the courtyard, which could be reached by everyone (the courtyard was attainable from the street).
Wifi was not working.
There was no window in our room.
