Charming hutong apartment, great location
4tuataras
Auckland, New Zealand | Oct 8, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyOur family of 2 adults and 2 children (11yrs) stayed for 4 days here and loved it!
The reception staff were great and spoke good English- very friendly and helpful with our questions.
Great location for walking to Forbidden City and shopping street (Wangfujing).
In the middle of Lishi Hutong- a typical living area.
Our apartment was lovely- and although our bed situation didn't accommodate us all in the beginning, this was quickly remedied by the reception staff even though we arrived at midnight! We had a large queen size (with canopy) and one child slept on the couch which they made up, while a rollaway was brought in for our second child- problem sorted! Small bathroom but clean and more than adequate. Tea/ jug provided.
We had breakfast included with our room, and the restaurant on the top floor (lovely indoor and outdoor seating)provided fantastic food. You have the choice of 4 types of breakfasts with varying dishes- including French toast or pancakes, or Chinese breakfast with steamed buns etc! Really great. And the American coffee was delicious!
We asked if we could get some washing done close by, and the reception staff took care of it- doing it in-house. Cost us about 120 yuan (not super cheap), but worth it for the no hassle side (and for the amount of washing we had!)
They can also organise tickets/ tours to the Great Wall and other attractions, but we had already organised our own tour.
Helpful directions with a map on how to get to the Forbidden City (within walking distance- about 20min).
In our immediate hutong we ate at the same restaurant for dinner 3 nights in a row. If you head down Lishi Hutong (our one) toward Wangfujing, There are many Szechuan restaurants (not labelled as such), with great food and although they may not speak English, the menu usually has pictures. Be aware that any pictures with chillies is likely to have at least 3 times the amount shown!! But we still managed to find some less spicy dishes (including sweet/sour fried chicken, eggplant, broccoli) that our 11 year olds could happily eat.
A great stay and would happily return! -
Fantastic place in Beijing!

Average stay for Hutong!
Jordan E
Sep 9, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesLocation: 10 minute walk from metro station, partially mixed in with business districts-Starbucks near bus stop( Let's all be honest, you need coffee sometimes!) . The hutongs in Beijing are wonderful but can be in a mostly hutong area, or a mixed area like this one. We preferred the mostly hutong area, but this one is a mix. The hutong itself is ok, there are a few restaurants, where other hutongs have many restaurants/milk tea/shops. But it is very close to main attractions in Beijing, which is nice!
Room: Clean, very comfortable beds-like the best in China, as well as the pillows.. so much better than the average rock you get! Small, but hot and good shower! We stayed in the double room, our bed had a drape over it which was cool! It was odd that there was a spare twin bed in our room.. Otherwise it was decent. Good in size, plenty of room to spread out! Fresh tea daily in room which is nice! ***The courtyard in the picture is INDOOR and small, they have done a good job decorating, but this fact was a little sad.
We did not do any of the organized tours through the hotel, we saw the Great Wall by public bus, about 1/4 of the price!
Late night staff nice and helpful, morning staff was ok-a little inpatient/only smiling if trying to sell us a tour/not much English.
Recommendations: Not a bad place to stay, but there are cooler hutong experiences in Beijing. Decent price, feels more hostel-ish than hotel-ish, so depending on what you're looking for, it might be fine! -
Hutong style
liburnix
Trieste, Italy | Aug 18, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyIt's located in the Hutong, so you'll be in contact with an unusual style of life.
PRO the location is quite good, near the centre of Beijing; the price is reasonable. The staff can talk and understand english in a good way.
CON for 4 persons the room they gave us was a little too small; shame about the bathroom: sink and shower all in one. Be careful you must throw the paper in the basket, all kind of paper..
In the morning it took about 20 minutes to do a cappuccino, so the staff is kind, helpful, but it needs to speed up. -
Good place but watch out for over-charges
keikosman
Okinawa Prefecture, Japan | Aug 8, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe room was OK, the location was OK. They recommended an excellent restaurant nearby and their tourist packages were very convenient.
Close to the subway, convenient to Tienanmen Square.
However, their housekeeper "found" a scratch on the desk and the front desk wanted me to pay for the repair. Conveniently the look, "you're out of your freaking mind if you think I'm going to fall for that," translates completely into Mandarin...no over charge.
