Decent hotel near Renmin University

This is an entirely acceptable hotel that is convenient to Renmin University and the Beijing Metro. It is relatively short taxi ride from the airport, cost 100-120 Yuan. The rooms are comfortable though somewhat run down. The plumbing rattled a bit, the toilet ran until you jiggled the handle, and the A/C was weak. The staff is friendly and tries very hard to please, but only a few know much more than basic English. But if needed, the hotel manager steps in and has excellent English. The breakfast is a bit on the greasy side, and the one small coffee maker is not up to Euro-Western demands for coffee. I wouldn't really recommend the hotel food, but go out the front door, turn left, and about 300 meters down, before the major cross street, is a great Chinese restaurant on the right that has picture menus, super food, and great prices.
It was okay. Nothing special. Definitely not 4 stars.

Minimal English at reception, so be prepared to spend a bit of time explaining things when checking in if you don't speak Mandarin Chinese. No breakfast if booked room by Expedia. Old TV. Old school pink toilet and tub. 5 min walk to the Metro. 1 hour plus to go to Forbidden Palace (not recommended as it was too crowded). 5 stops the other direction will take you to the Summer Palace (Xi Yuan) and 4 stops to Yuanming Yuan Park (both are highly recommended). Booked a tour to the Great Wall at Badalin at the tour desk on first floor of hotel. Really good and informative trip.

The stay at this hotel was relatively pleasant. It is only rated at 3 stars so we didn't expect much. However, they hold conferences for people from all over the world so we expected that the staff would be able to speak relatively good English. Not so. If you plan on staying make sure you carry a translator at all times. However, having said this they did try very hard and due to this I give them a big cudos for effort.
Also their concept of cleanliness may differ from western culture. There was mould in the Bathroom (in the tiles). Lights didn't work and neither did the safe. Expect the rooms to smell of smoke, as smoking indoors is still pretty much part of the culture.
All in all don't expect much in the way of accommodation, the sheets were clean and the staff were friendly.

Was clean and good. Location not near city centre but has supermarket nearby and breakfast fast food places. Near to subway. Quiet. Nearest veg should be at zhongguanchun station. View was ok. Near To shopping centre selling branded clothes. If you walk out to the supermarket there is subway and macdonalds.

If you are visiting Renmin University, this is the place to stay - just opposite the main entrance. The University underground station is also only a short walk away, with easy connections across the city. The hotel itself is average. My room (one of the modernised ones) was of an ok size but nothing special. Quiet. Other reviewers have complained about breakfast, which I thought was fine.
