Nice house
LiBjork
Stockholm, Sweden | Sep 26, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThis hotel is very cheap and considering that you get a decent enough hotel. The building is very nice and the location is great. The rooms are very basic and clean. During winter it can get very cold so make sure you get a room with a heater and that the heater works.

Very good, considering its low price. Location couldn't be better.
Yamsterdam
Amsterdam, The Netherlands | Aug 16, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesI chose this hotel because of price and location in Beijing's city centre. It didn't dissapoint on both accounts.
The hotel is close to a main gentrified pedestrian shopping street, running right of Tiananmen Square. This street is kind of tacky, because it's a bit like Main Street in Disneyland, complete with streetcars. Behind the street's facades real old Beijing starts. The contrast is fun to see. The hotel is in one of the old Hutong streets, which gives you the 'real' Beijing feel. You get best of both worlds. The old Hutong streets are crammed with restaurants, which we loved. It's so easy to get a quick Chinese breakfast of freshly steamed dumplings for next to nothing. Lots of Hotpot restaurants for dinner. The authentic Beijing Duck restaurant Lonely Planet recommends is also within walking distance in another Hutong. Beijing Opera is a short walk. Forbidden City is a short walk. Temple of Heaven is walkable. You get it, there's a lot nearby.
Another big plus is the metro is nearby (the circle line, that also connects to the airport express). But, and this isn't mentioned in any guidebook or website, there's also a new metro station right next to the hotel. And it looks like another one is almost finished. With these three metro lines near this hotel, you get acces to virtually every Beijing sightseeing spot without even transferring.
The hotel itself was ok. Building quite pretty and historical. Staff was uninterested, and didn't say much in the five nights we were there. We didn't get the room we booked and were unable to change. The room itself was big enough. AC was broken for the first two nights. We thought they were making excuses, but it got fixed the third night.
The hotel was very noisy, with huge groups of Chinese schoolchildren making noise during the night. Bring earplugs.
Room didn't get cleaned once during our five night stay. I'd say this is somewhere between a hostel and a hotel.
We booked an excursion to the Chinese Wall at the hotel, which was cheap and pretty good. Aimed at westerners that don't want to go shopping but just walk the wall. Still it was too 'organized' for pretty much everyone that took the trip.
The hotel has a bar which is nice and also cheap. It's also possible to eat here and have breakfast (including western options). We didn't try it, because you're spoiled with everything Beijing has to offer for breakfast and dinner.
There are several shops/mini markets in the vicinity, which is handy to get water/drinks/snacks etc. People in shops and restaurants this part of Beijing were very friendly to us. More so than in the tourist oriented shops and restaurants.
Don't expect anything fancy, but just a basic place to sleep on an incredible location for a really good price.
We've seen the big fancy hotels and they seem to be more distant from what makes Beijing fun and that are the authentic neighborhoods and the big ticket attractions. -
Great location although a little difficult to find
BananaramaBananarama
England | Jul 9, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyLocation: This hotel is fantastic for its central location (15 mins walk from forbidden city and close to a main shopping street). It is within one of the hutons, so close to a small shop that sold fruit and water etc. Staff speak some english and are helpful.
Directions: from the airport take the airport express train to Dongzhimen which costs 25rb pp. Then take line 2 on the metro to Qianmen. Leave by exit B or C. Look for the huge ornamental arch, go underneath (if you arrive late the arch is closed so you will have to go around it) and cross the wide road over the zebra crossing. Continue along the main shopping street following tram track, passing the Bank of China on the right and Zara on the left. Once you see h&m turn right up a ramp and down the narrow alley and over the crossroads which has the train ticket shop on the corner. Continue straight for about 20m and the hotel is on the right.
Room: We had a twin room on the ground floor. The room was clean and a good size with air con. The bathroom was fine although more of a wet room. They empty your bin/fold towels daily but that is all.
Breakfast: good in the hotel with plenty of choice but I got some pretty bad bites being sat on their sofa one morning.
Tours: We booked the Great Wall of China tour through the hotel at 280rb pp. You can pay by card or cash. You take the receipt and the tour guide meets you the following morning at the end of the street. The price includes lunch and entrance but not the cable car. Our guide was very insistent on us taking the cable car down and not tobogganing but we pushed for it and I would totally recommend it. We had such a laugh and it made the day. She collects the extra money before you get off the bus and im not sure if she overcharged us. I thought I had read that it would be less. We paid 180rb pp and I think she got a group discount as well. The bus drops you back off wherever you want to be. -
Great inexpensive hotel in an authentic neighborhood

Oakmont, PA | Jun 13, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelI really enjoyed my stay at the Hyde Hotel, and would recommend it for anyone who wants to have the "real" Beijing experience and stay in a local hutong (neighborhood) instead of a big sterile Western style hotel. The Hyde was perfect for that. It's located on a tiny alley just off Meishi Street. The alley is too small for a taxi, so you'll need to get dropped off on Meishi and walk a hundred yards or so to the hotel. No big deal. Note, however, that if you approach the hotel from the other end of the alley, the red sign in front of the hotel reads "Are Operating" instead of "Hyde Hotel", so you might miss the hotel entrance! The Hyde is pretty good by local standards. It's clean, friendly, and several staff speak some English. Hot water for showers is a bit iffy, though. Rooms are comfortable though small. And the price is great. Overall, I liked it a lot.

A great, value for money Beijing Hyde-out

Solihull, United Kingdom | Apr 8, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayI initially booked with friends to stay for 3 nights here on our stop in Beijing, but we ended up staying 7. Hyde hotel is well located in the Qian'men district of Beijing, and Forbidden City is walkable from there in about 10-15 minutes, along with good underground links to other districts and attractions. There is a main shopping street running through the middle, and Hyde hotel is located off here in a side street, away from any real street noise. There were not many guests staying here when we did, but we were booked into a 4-bed dorm, and found the room to be pretty cosy, clean, beds were ok and the wifi was fine too. Thankfully the heater worked well too, as it was freezing when we visited Beijing! We had a shared bathroom, and I also found this to be well maintained, and the showers (3 of them) were warm at all times, which again was welcoming bearing in mind temps back then. We ate in the restaurant once, and the food was of a good standard, although it took the guy a while to come and take our order, despite several hints that we were ready to order! Communication here in general can be difficult, as not many of the staff speak English, but you get by.
If eating here isn't to your fancy then there are several Beijing-style restaurants on side streets selling local food at very good prices, some with English menus too.. but if you are looking for a few alcoholic beverages we found places to be in short supply from here! we found a nearby hostel and just had a few beers in their bar/eating area whenever we fancied some.
All in all, for the cheap price we paid we got a lot more than we could have expected here. It gave us a good base from which to explore Beijing.
