Close to Forbidden City
louisianagal
baton rouge, louisiana | Jun 4, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe best thing about this hotel is the location. It's a short walk to Forbidden City. Other then that, it was a little disappointing. The rooms are nice enough with a walk-in shower, big tub and nice decor. However, I could never get the room to be really cool. There's no place within the hotel to buy a snack and few of the workers speak English.

Apr 18, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesGreat location close to forbidden City and Tiananmen square. Walking distance to the subway.
Has a roof terrace that wasn't open during our stay. Initially given an inside room with balcony overlooking the atrium area. Room was quite small and very stuffy. If we opened the door into the balcony it made little difference to the air flow and also the edge of the balcony was right next to the way other guests accessed their rooms which would have posed a security risk and also would have been very noisy.
Hotel did move us once I asked and gave us a much bigger room with a large opening window which allowed fresh air into the room. Minibar had free water, beer and soda. Staff weren't particularly friendly but were professional and courteous. -
Fantastic location, nice sized rooms, disappointing everything else
Julian G
The Woodlands, Texas | Mar 26, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelThe location of the hotel is fantastic for access to the metro (Wanfujing), and right by the forbidden city/tianenmen. The room was a good size, however, the bed and fixtures were all aging, the view from the room was horrible, staff were just OK, and the food was TERRIBLE. Do not eat at this hotel if you stay here.
Additional Information about The Grand Hotel Beijing
-
The Grand Hotel Beijing (Beijing Guibinlou Fandian), a magnificent palace converted into a five-star hotel, is located on a small street and almost appears from nowhere as you drive towards it. The building's traditional sweeps and dragon's tails contrast dramatically with the modern design trends sweeping the rest of Beijing.
Guests of the hotel benefit from an exceptional location. The Grand Hotel overlooks both the Forbidden City and Beijing's most cosmopolitan concourse, Chang'an Avenue, with all its colorful urban hustle and bustle.
The hotel's traditional Chinese characteristics invoke the styles of the palace's bygone rulers alongside modern amenities uncommon during the Qing Dynasty like complimentary high speed Internet access, fax machines and a separate rainforest shower and deep bathtub.
Restaurants at this Beijing hotel serve a variety of cuisines, including Chinese regional foods like Cantonese cuisine as well as Japanese cuisine and Western cuisine. After a meal or whenever, guests can enjoy drinks at the seasonally open Palace View Bar, which as the name suggests offers a dramatic view of the Forbidden City, or the Fountain Bar. -
