An historic oasis of calm in central Beijing
Old-peculiar
Northamptonshire | Oct 5, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThis hotel, located just off Beijing's most famous hutong, (Narrow lane), is right amongst all the hustle and bustle of this trendy location in central Beijing. Once through the doors though, you would never know it. It is completely quiet and with the beautiful surroundings of the courtyard - the bedrooms face it, you really would not guess where you where. For approx £100, (rmb10-£1) we had a great room with a comfy bed and well appointed bathroom with a huge shower. A very good breakfast is also included with omelettes and bacon and eggs if you prefer. The restaurant serves dinner but is very quiet; with such a wonderful selection of places to eat just outside - that is where we tended to go. The metro, which is easy to use is just 10 to 15 minutes walk away and you can walk from the exit of the Forbidden City in under 30 minutes. The staff could not do enough for us including helping us get our dodgy i-pad going and always providing milk and extra tea bags!

Great hotel in a great location

Sep 27, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayStayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting Beijing. Great hotel, right in the hutongs. Lively area but the hotel itself is in a very tranquil street. Staff are courteous and speak excellent English. Breakfasts are very good and the hotel has a little bar which is great if you want a quick beer whilst relaxing. Will definitely stay here next time I visit Beijing

Fab boutique hotel in the Hutongs

Manchester | Sep 26, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayWe arrived at courtyard 7 quite late at night but this was not a problem, the staff were attentive and happy to see us.
My room as great, spacious and very clean. A huge bed, sofa, wardrobe and a gorgeous bathroom.
Useful bits of info: there is a small fridge in the room for drinks, and they provide free bottled water. the fridge does appear to freeze water though lol. there is a plug adaptor provided for those who have forgotten theirs. There is a tv with channels from all over the world. I am not sure who has time to watch tv though whilst visiting Beijing. There is a hairdryer and also bathrobes and slippers.
I was a little chilly at night, but there were extra duvets in the wardrobe.
Breakfast was pleasant, freshly cooked omelettes were just what was needed to start the day.
the wifi is a little hit and miss, but its free and some areas were better than others.
Around Courtyard 7 are lots of shops, bars, a starbucks and street vendors. A great area.
If I was lucky enough to visit Beijing again, I would definitely stay here. -
I've never loved any place more.

Chapel Hill, North Carolina | Sep 15, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelEverything about this hotel is perfect. The location within the Hutong couldn't be more fun and close to lovely shops, bars, and restaurants (from traditional to quite unique). If they're booked, change your dates. It's that worth a stay.
The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous down to every single detail. I stayed in one of the rooms with a canopy bed. When I booked through Agoda, it said I was reserving a single room in the back (I believe it was described as where the Unmarried Daughters would live!) and that it would have no window. I'm not certain if I received a true upgrade or not, but the exact room I stayed in can be seen on the website as "Side House- Superior Room", and it definitely had a beautiful bank of carved wooden windows! They looked out onto a private courtyard and they let in plenty of light. I wondered if the hotel was underselling itself since the view was of the courtyard wall; still, I loved my windows and was so pleasantly surprised.
The breakfast buffet was good with lots of decent options (fruit, breads, coffee, eggs to order), and, like so much associated with this hotel, the best part is simply sitting in the rooms and taking in all the beautiful traditional details. It's so quiet and atmospheric. I was very grateful for the chance to have some quiet time in a place that felt so traditional, historic, and serene.
The desk staff were always very friendly and helpful. The wifi was the strongest and most reliable I had in China. The room wasn't large, but it was so charming and distinctive that I wouldn't have traded it for anything. The canopy bed was soft and comfortable. Nice, big shower, too.
I wasn't expecting Beijing to be so thoroughly beautiful, and it's places like Courtyard 7 that make it such a lovely and detailed, historic city. I visited the Summer Palace expecting to be bowled over by the level of intricacy (and I was), but at the same time, I also found myself thinking, "My hotel is nearly every bit as beautiful and well-loved as this place". The signs around the place and on the website are worth reading, to give a sense of the history of the place and of other courtyard homes. They are proud of the renovations they made, and they should be! It's clear that revitalizing the Hutong is a passion project for so many.
After staying in other neighborhoods in other Chinese cities that were advertised as traditional, but which proved to be a bit challenging to navigate at times for a solo traveller who doesn't know Chinese (not China's fault- all mine!), by the time I reached Beijing I was a little worried about staying in the MOST labyrinthine and traditional of neighborhoods. On the contrary: The hutong where Courtyard 7 is was so accessible, friendly, open, busy, and fun. There's a great feeling in the neighborhood that is evidence of the love and pride felt for this special part of Beijing. It felt safe at nearly any hour of the night, and my Great Wall tour guide had no problem getting to me on foot. It's a short walk to the main entrance of the Hutong; as easy as anywhere to find a taxi.
By far my favorite place I stayed in China, thanks to the beauty of the Courtyard 7 and its excellent location. -
