Excellent location, charming courtyard, and friendly staff
LingJA1998
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia | Oct 1, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI found this hotel through TripAdvisor and it was just as I expected; the lovely courtyard was a bonus.
The hotel located in a Hutong (alley) 20 metres away from the main street. A taxi was not able to access directly but it provided us of very quiet nights (at least during our stay) in the central heart of Beijing with 20 million population and with perhaps an equal amount of vehicles.
The best landmark for the hotel I discovered was not 'San-yan-jing Hutong' or 'Jingshan Garden Hotel' (quite often got confused with a 'Red Wall Hotel' in the same district) but Jingshan Dongjie (Jingshan East Street), a bus stop for 4 or 5 transport routes. The hotel was also within the walking distance to the Forbidden City (~3 km to the front gate) and Wangfujing(~2.5km) through some interesting alleys and streets. Jingshan (Mountain Jing), a geographic central point of Beijing just few hundred metres from the hotel, was worth a visit in the early morning (¥2 for entrance) where locals doing their morning excises and practise, and there was a fabulous birds-view on the summit over the city.
We stayed there for 9 nights. After the initial challenge of the conditions outside the front gate and maze-like alleys nearby, I found this is a charming hotel for a family holiday. What I liked most was the courtyard where I could sit and read or talk with my family and friends who visited us. The vines and fruits of grape, pumpkin, bitter melon and luffa hang overhead, providing a true feeling of traditional Beijing courtyard house. The ground floor room we stayed (1106) had windows towards the courtyard. It was cosy. Some facilities needed an upgrade (no fridge in the room) and maintenance but comfortable enough. I could access wifi ‘most' of the time inside the room or in the courtyard. My 9-year-old son thought it was great.
The staff were very friendly during our stay. English was not their strength but they were keen to help. Breakfast was good enough ( toast, coffee and egg dishes were available), and there was a corner in the restaurant where you could practise Chinese calligraphy!
If you want to experience what true Beijing life feels like, I recommended this hotel. -
Good location and great AC

Bucharest, Romania | Oct 1, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThe best thing about room is location close to forbidden city and an air conditioner that works very well. Staff was friendly and courteous but spoke very little English. Rooms were clean and staff swapped out the room safe to get me one that worked. Breakfast average but they will cook some eggs for you. The juice was closer to Tang than juice and milk was long life in box. Not accessible by automobile and down a strange alley.

Lovely rooms and charm but receptionist needs some training!

London, United Kingdom | Sep 28, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayRooms beautiful and clean - done up to feel very traditional. Our room no wifi so had to use it in the courtyard. Excellent central location for sightseeing. Receptionist struggled to check us in then refused to provide us with breakfast as we were leaving for The Wall at 6.30am. However, this was rectified - bread and butter with water in a bag!

Friendly staff

Sep 19, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesFirst of all the staff was great. We arrived very late due to delayed fights and the staff was very accommodating. We were checked in very quickly and shown to our room. Other than a very hard bed we slept well. Breakfast in the morning was great with lots of choices. The room was pretty far from the metro and required walking through the hutong district which is pretty much a maze. Location was good as it was close by to some important attractions.
Pros: friendly staff, good breakfast, large room
Cons: far from metro, hard mattress -
OK for a night or two

Lake Worth, Florida | Sep 19, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelI stayed here for 2 nights because I wanted to stay in a hutong instead of a regular western hotel. Basically it is embedded in an alleyway with a courtyard and small rooms. Typical amenities - plus slippers - were nice and the bed was comfortable enough. The staff were friendly and spoke a little English. The hard part was finding the place after I went out for the day. I got lost in a maze of alleyways, as they all looked alike to me. A taxi can only go within 2 blocks of the place due to the narrow streets, but all in all, not a bad 2 day stay.
Additional Information about Jingshan Garden Hotel Beijing
-
The Jingshan Garden Hotel-Forbidden City (Hong Qiang Jingshan Huayuan Jiudian) offers a slightly more modern take on the traditional courtyard style found around Beijing. The pagodas of Jingshan Park across the street are visible from the hotel while the Forbidden City is just a short distance away. Located in the hutong, the hotel stays quiet despite its location in the center of the city.
The hotel should not be confused with the Red Wall Garden Hotel, located in Shijia Hutong.
Traditional doors and windows look out onto the hotels courtyard from guestrooms equipped all the standard amenities as well as in-room safes.
Guests may enjoy Chinese foods at the on-site dining outlet.
For those looking for something more social, there is also a bar and a teahouse on the premises. -
