Nice Location! Situated at quiet neighbourhood
Nelson170017
Alor Setar, Malaysia | Oct 16, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayThe hotel location is just nice, just behind Forbidden City and it is only 10 minutes walking distance to there, in front of the hotel can easily reach bus station and connecting to Dongsi Metro Station.
The room is very clean and comfortable, wifi modem can be requested fro hotel staffs.
Overall, nice! Wo ai Beijing! -
Just that - average!

Sep 21, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayStayed here with 8 friends for the last 3 nights of our trip to China. We were allocated the 'Traditional Chinese Style' rooms - these are tiny rooms with traditional Chinese furniture, artwork, fittings etc. These rooms look out onto a Chinese themed courtyard which was probably once nice but now just features a broken fountain and a few small trees.
The room was nicely decorated but it had its issues. It was in poor condition - the wallpaper was peeling, the front door only opened half way, the bathroom door didn't close properly and the shower base leaked, covering the entire bathroom floor with water. The beds were okay for China standards and were better than some other hotels we stayed at.
The breakfast was just awful - the food was cold and not replenished regularly and the 'orange juice' was more like warm, watery fruit cup cordial.
On our last night we arrived home late after a night walk to find our room key wouldn't work and we were locked out! Luckily reception were quick to rectify the issue.
Our room was bearable but another friend in our group had to move rooms because their original room was constantly filled with cigarette smoke from an unknown source.
The major benefit of this hotel is its location - it is so close to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and other popular landmarks as well as the subway station and night markets.
If you want a budget hotel in walking distance to many locations then the Redwall is one to consider - just make sure your room has no issues before you unpack and buy your own breakfast instead of paying for the mediocre buffet. -
Simple hotel in the heart of Beijing
HappyRuben2015
Amsterdam, The Netherlands | Sep 15, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThe Redwall hotel is simple, but good for the price.
It is practically next to the Forbidden city and on a 5 minute walk from Jingshan park (which is amazing to visit early in the morning). The subway is about 10 to 15minutes away and I recommend any tourist to get a week-pass or so as their subway system is very sophisticated (and cheap) which gets you anywhere!
I won't lie, the room we got on arrival was far from good. There were two cockroaches walking on the wall! When I mentioned this to the staff we were given a room upgrade right away so I am happy with the service; their English was also relativly good. Naturally the bed is hard but trust me, after walking for a whole day this is better for your back!
After all it is a budget hotel but I think it was worth the money! -
Deluxe rooms are good but AVOID THE RESTAURANT!
Joel F
Knoxville, Tennessee | Jul 28, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyLocation is a little run down but convenient to the Forbidden City and national art museum, which by the way is free of charge. Our deluxe room on the first floor was comfortable and modern. We had a slow sink drain, but staff fixed it immediately. We had looked at one of the rooms in the older wing , but it was small, worn out, and smelled of mold.
I tried breakfast one morning, a ripoff. The orange juice was the same orange-colored sugar water you find at mom and pop Chinese groceries. The coffee was watered-down instant with sugar and fake milk. The fried eggs were made from the previous day's soft-boiled eggs--you could see greenish boiled sections around the yolks. I was really upset at losing 38y and complained to the manager on duty to no avail. -
Great Location, Average Chinese-Style Hotel
ShannaVincent
Norman, Oklahoma | Jun 19, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI've stayed at this hotel twice, in May 2014 and May 2015, both times with groups of college students. This hotel is in a great location, minutes away from the Forbidden City and Wangfujing Road. There is a subway station down the road about 10-15 minutes walking distance, so it's easy to connect to other parts of Beijing.
If you expect standard Chinese-style accommodations, this is perfect. It is nothing fancy, but it's nothing terrible either. I'd be fine staying here again in future trips to Beijing.
Wi-Fi is available in the lobby for free, but in-room internet is wired only. You will have to call the front desk when prompted for your password; I believe it's your room number, but regardless they will need to "turn on" your internet. If you have a travel router or laptop with Ethernet port you can access in-room internet through the provided Ethernet cable.
