Very nice hotel, but a little off
Nick O
Stockholm, Sweden | Oct 31, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayThe location is good in one way. It's a stones throw from Yonganli subway station, which will take you right to Tianmen Square (subway is easily the best way to go around in Beijing). Right next to the subway entrance is a McDonald's if you feel homesick or just a bit tired of Chinese food. A few meters down the same road you have the Silk Market, where you can find stuff like souvenirs and clothes.
The downside of the location is that it feels like it's in a middle of the business district, which means that the area is quite dead after business hours. There doesn't seem to be many restaurants in the area (although, weirdly, we found a Danish restaurant selling smørrebrød sandwiches right around the corner). If you're looking for a good place to eat in the area I can recommend Xiao Wang's home restaurant which is within walking distance of the hotel and has excellent Sichuan food.
The room was beautiful, very modern interior and spotlessly clean. My room faced the Jiangoumen outer street side road which gets a bit noisy but too bad, so earplugs can take care of that. The bed was quite comfortable, although a little on the hard side, which seems to be the norm in China, if not Asia.
The service was good, with staff quite friendly. If you choose to exchange currency make sure that the bills you hand over are more or less spotlessly clean and crisp as they will reject them otherwise, apparently on instruction from their bank. The breakfast buffet was absolutely perfect. A lot of stuff to choose from, and a guy frying eggs on order.
In summary, the hotel is very nice but the location is a little off. If you're looking for a little more action I'd recommend a place in Wangfujing instead. -
Suitable base for Beijing adventures

Brisbane, Australia | Oct 29, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI visited this hotel on a study tour for my Masters. The hotel is located centrally in a popular western company business district so it has close proximity to subway, shopping, eating out, partying and business.
The hotel was clean and the rooms were serviced. Ask for a room away from the main road, one that is either at the back of the property or faces the courtyard inside as the busy road is a killer for when you have to open the door to let fresh air in. They don't activate the air conditioning in certain months (I visited in April) and the room can be stuffy. I note that some travellers feel the hotel is dated. It's interior design is indeed very ornate as in keeping with the cultural view of what is plush or well appointed. I found some of the furniture to be tired but it was functional, clean and did the trick.
I found the hotel very safe and appropriate (especially for female businesswomen/holidayers travelling alone) and the staff were pleasant and attentive.
Breakfast buffet was very western with a chinese offering. The beer was always cold in the bar downstairs and the chairs by the windows into the garden where a lovely 'wind down' to a long, and often polluted day. Beijing air can get thick!
Finally, watch the rickshaw drivers. If you negotiate a price, have the right cash - you won't get change. Stick with the cabs...they're honest, and easy despite not having the wind in your hair. -
Quite ok.

Vaasa, Finland | Sep 25, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessQuite ok hotel, room was ok size, but maybe little outdated? Staff and service were great so that compensates it a bit. Location was great. Shopping centers were near the hotel, authentic and copies so there's no problem to get rid of your money :)

Great location but a little tired

New Zealand | Sep 1, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyOur family stayed at the Jianguo Hotel for a week in August. The hotel rooms are nice, relatively clean but tired and worn. The hotel just has a tired feeling about it. While the location is good (beside Silk Street) and about 40 minutes walk from the Forbidden City this does have disadvantages. It is extremely difficult to get taxis from the hotel with most taxis refusing to stop and the main road the hotel is on gets clogged during rush hour. The hotel staff were not very useful when it came to organizing transport.

Very nice hotel

Aug 25, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesHotel is very good situated. We were with a group and could not decide about hotel but were pleasently supprised when we saw the position of the hotel and its quiet atmosphere with the garden In the middle. We walk around and the surrounding is very pleasent. Silk Market is across the street, literally, and also are "western" restaurants and coffe shop. The breakfast was ok, rooms are a little bit old fashioned but clean and big. The bathroom needs refreshment, but nothing drastically.
As In all places In China the staff In the restaurant don' t speak English.
