Nice hotel but overrated service
ashleyhe
Hong Kong, China | Oct 15, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe location, the design, the decoration and almost everything about the hardware is quite good and consistent with the 'Sofitel' brand equity, however the service is mediocre among all the hotels in BJ that I've ever been, some new staff can't address to simple questions and sometimes not responsive, guess the training program of Accor staff in BJ isn't as good as that of Marriott, SPG, etc. Other than the service everything else is actually quite satisfactory. The Italian restaurant Heritage is a pleasant surprise, compared with other Italian ones in BJ, but still has quite some room for improvement to catch up with those in SH / HK.

Elegant and luxurios design with great rooms
Patrick S
Oct 6, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe Hotel is close to the CCTV building and is located comfortably to access the Beijing hot spots.
They know how to make a good first impression since the lobby looks like 5 star from the bottom to the top. This impression continued through the whole hotel, which is very nicely decorated everywhere, including the restaurants and the Spa.
One of the best parts are the rooms, they offer everything you need and are furnitured elegantly. The fresh fruit platter you'll find in your room every morning is the attention to detail that makes the "room experience" even better. Very nice and clean bathrooms. I would like to highlight the beds in particular. I have rarely slept as well as in those beds in my life. Probably the most comfortable beds I know, which is a big plus arriving in Beijing from a long trip.
For me, breakfast is very important when it comes to hotels, and the Sofitel Wanda didn't disappoint. Original and freshly baked french croissants is just one of the highlights. Breakfast offers everything you might ask for, I personally liked the asian corner with its variety of Dim Sum and soups very much.
The service in the hotel is good and everybody is friendly and polite.
The only complaint would be the lack of english, which occasionally resulted in bad service, since the order or question wasn't received or understood correctly.
Although this was the case in pretty much every hotel or restaurant I've been to during my China trip, I think you could expect more than that from an international 5* hotel. It can get annoying after a while.
Still, I would highly recommend the Sofitel Wanda for a stay in Beijing! -
Comfortable hotel but not 5 star
SusanOfBrisbane
Brisbane, Australia | Oct 5, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI booked and paid for this hotel through Expedia (2x rooms) and was surprised to find upon check in that they asked for a deposit of AUD $2500. I've stayed in plenty of 5 star hotels before and have never experienced such a hefty deposit. Just as well the credit card had a decent limit!
PROS: The rooms were comfortable with great beds, linen and pillows and quite spacious with plenty of room for luggage. The bathroom is large with a separate bath with TV. The hotel is very well located with the subway about five minutes walk and bakeries and Starbucks close by. Its also next to the New World Department store which has a Wal-Mart in the basement. The concierge was helpful although most staff had very little English. This wasn't a problem but we did discover a very helpful European concierge at the end of our stay who helped us book a restaurant.
CONS: WiFi didn't work well at all. It was intolerably slow and I resorted to using my iPhone data. The pool was closed for the duration of our stay which really disappointed the kids. The pool room was one of the deciding factors on booking this hotel. Our rooms, although spacious were a little tired. The electric curtains were broken and the vinyl on the bed head was peeling off. I was also really disappointed with the quality of the Lanvin toiletries. I didn't bring any shampoo etc with me expecting that the hotel supply would suffice however these products were so cheap and nasty I couldn't get the comb through my hair. The shower looked great with the rain shower built into the ceiling however the water regulator wasn't working and it ran freezing cold to boiling hot and back again. I'm guessing every time someone turned on a tap in a nearby room it must have affected the water temp.
Overall, the hotel was comfortable but I probably would book somewhere else next time. -
Good product but service left much to be desired
BienameY
Beijing, China | Oct 4, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyStayed twice (4 nights) over 2 weeks period in Jun 2015, with my wife and daughter.
Based on product alone, I would have given this hotel a 5, but the service was a letdown, from hk, front desk, bellman and room service.
Was dropped off by a friend, we had 4 luggages, bellman indicated that I should bring one in myself when there is a luggage trolley 5/6 steps away.
Check in very slow, only one staff serving but there are 2 others standing around and made no attempt to help.
Had difficulties in ordering room service, staff was not aware there is a kids menu, luckily my wife speaks mandarin.
Room and bathroom very spacious, good condition, good quality linen and towels. -
